Maslenitsa will be celebrated in Tatarstan in Elabuga and Sviyazhsk

In Tatarstan the celebration of Maslenitsa (Spring festival) will be held in the cities of Elabuga and Sviyazhsk – said the press service of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of Tatarstan.

Traditional celebration of Maslenitsa will take place in the museum-estate of N.A.Durovoy of  Elabuga State Museum-reserve from February 20 to March 2.

The guests of the event will be greeted by jolly costumed characters – Maslenitsa (thatch doll), Tsar, Rwo from casket, Baba Yaga and other fairy-tale characters. The guests will be treated with pancakes, horseback riding will be offered to them, too.
In the museum “The Island Town-Svijazhsk” on March 1 exciting contests, tasty treats, people festivities will be organized for visitors. In addition, everyone could challenge weight lifting, walking on stilts and other strong men entertainments. The thatch doll of Maslenitsa will be carried along the streets of Sviyazhsk.
At the complex of historical reconstruction "Lazy Torzhok" one could see the theater of Petrsuhka (funny character) and play at the playground. The competitions in throwing knives, axes, spears, chopping cabbage and apples, archery and crossbow are planned, too.

On completion of the battle with the siege of snow town and taking seizure of stuffed Maslenitsa doll, strong men fun and skiing on sleighs with overcoming obstacles on the river shore the culmination of the holiday - the burning of Maslenitsa and farewell to winter will take place.
